Surface pattern Design by Ellie and Liv, Simone Carr. Rhubarb, Rose and Apple Fabric Pattern

Surface Pattern Design

Nature-inspired, hand-drawn surface patterns for products, textiles, stationery, and interiors. Rooted in storytelling, available for licensing.

We all have those stories that stay with us, whisking us away to hidden forests or secret gardens brimming with wildflowers and roses. Just like words can transport us to another world, I believe surface pattern designs should capture that same sense of wonder and magic. Evoking feelings of calm and joy or giving a sense of a season or location.

Surface pattern has the power to stir emotion, ignite imagination, and weave a beautiful story into the products people love and live with.

Do you have a story or an idea you wish to capture in a pattern? Discover how I can transform your product and let the pattern talk to your consumer with a bespoke commission. Or take a moment to view my surface pattern collections that are available for purchase or licensing.

Work that has found its way into the world

My surface pattern work has been licensed by Bothy Threads, one of the UK’s leading needlecraft brands, whose collections are stocked in-house and across independent retailers and craft shops nationwide.

I’ve been shortlisted and commended in Make It In Design competitions, with judges noting the depth of market research and the strength of my design aesthetic in relation to real commercial products.

“We were blown away by how clean and professional your presentation was and how much it really captured your design style and brand. We thought you’d gone above and beyond on your market research and loved how you had really explored your chosen market area to find unique products that pair well with your style.”

Crafting Surface Pattern Designs for you

Every pattern begins by hand. I draw in fine line pen, building up botanical details slowly. Creating a texture of leaves, stems, seed heads, and petals before developing the composition into a seamless repeat. It’s a process rooted in traditional illustration techniques but informed by over 20 years of design experience and a deep understanding of how pattern works in commercial contexts.

I research the market you’re designing for, your product, your customer, your competitors, and the gap your design needs to fill. The result is pattern work that doesn’t just look beautiful in isolation but feels right on the product it was made for.

I love nothing more than discovering the story behind a project. It’s the small details, a particular flower that’s meaningful to a brand, a colour that evokes a specific place or season. That makes a pattern feel genuinely distinctive rather than decorative.

Who I work with

I work with independent brands, makers, and publishers who want surface patterns with genuine character. Something that tells a story, connects with a particular customer, and feels visibly handcrafted rather than generated.

If you make products for people who love nature, slow living, craft, or the domestic arts, kitchenware, stationery, textiles, gifting, homewares, publishing, the chances are we’re a good fit.

License an existing collection

My pattern collections are available to license for use across products, textiles, stationery, packaging, and publishing. Licensing terms are flexible, we can discuss exclusivity, territory, and usage to find an arrangement that works for your project. View the collections to see what’s available.

Commission a bespoke pattern

If you have a specific brief, a product in mind, or a story you want to tell through pattern, I’d love to create something made entirely for you. Bespoke commissions begin with a conversation about your brand, your customer, and what you’re hoping the pattern will do. From there, I develop concepts, refine, and deliver finished artwork in the formats you need.

Ready to explore?

Whether you’re interested in licensing an existing collection or commissioning something entirely new, I’d love to hear about your project. Get in touch with a little about what you’re making and what you’re looking for, and we’ll go from there.
